Football is indeed a very physical sport. The players on all levels endure great abuse towards their bodies, and after a while, the effects of such pain start to kick in. This much of the game we understand, but there is another issue that must be addressed. This article, "Being too Safe, or is it the Right Thing to do?" emphasizes that this sport is a violent game and even provides insight on some of the effects of playing football. However, this article also points out that the game is going through some changes in order to enhance player safety. With that said, the writer quotes a statement from a high school football player saying, "I believe they are changing the game too much, and it's affecting the game immensely." The high school player refers the "changes" to the many rule changes that are being implemented now to improve player safety. Moreover, the article seems to focus more on rule changes that prevent dangerous collisions and unnecessary physical actions. Being a former high school football player and NFL fan, I personally enjoy watching hard hits and physical games; to be honest, that's what makes the game interesting. However, I do understand the importance of these new rules and that its important to keep the athletes safe, but changing too much to the extent where it's a totally different ball game is where I believe that it has gone too far. After all football was meant to be a rough sport.
