Unnecessary Changes

This article specifically points out one of the new rules that just got approved of. This rule prohibits the runners and defenders from lowering their heads while making contact with the other player. This article first describes short-term benefits and long-term consequences football has to offer. Whether it be earning large amounts of money or suffering from a brain injury. Furthermore, despite having state-of-the-art equipment and a top notch medical staff, it seems as though head injuries still continue to occur. The NFL is attempting to decrease, if not eliminate, this occurrence with this new rule. After discussing about the new rule, the author shares his opinion on the matter and also quotes some of the athletes themselves on what they think of the new rule. The author quotes Scott Fujita as he talks about the issue, "It's a brutal game... you can't technique the game into becoming safer... And that's just reality." Moreover, they mentioned that this rule was silly and it was only natural that they lower their upper body. With this new rule players will most likely be penalized or fined more severely when committing head-to-head contact with another player. The author comments on how safe football is very much the same as safe cigarettes; they are both a myth. I honestly believe that this rule is silly, just like how the writer mentioned. From my experience, it was always natural that I lowered my shoulders and head when making a tackle. They even coached us to lower our upper body, but they did make sure that I kept my head up while lowering my shoulders. In addition, I agree with this article that this new rule was a little too much.
